I've installed and enabled the DHTML menu module,
however I don't see any effect from using it,
in the settings page of DHTML menu it just shows
checkbox for "jQuery slide effect" and "Duplicated menu items:"
I check the jQuery slide effect, but nothing happens.
DHTML menu module produces new blocks for every menu you have defined (prefixed with DHTML: menu name).
You have to enable DHTML: blocks in admin/build/blocks. Then, disable the original menu blocks.

Have you tried the dhtm_menu

Or simply use jQuery instead :)
Update: I had a look at the category menu at xomba.com and think this kind of menu is very simle done by jQuery, which is shipped with drupal 5+.
